Oklahoma Auditions 9/10 & 9/11/11

Young Artists Ensemble Present Auditions for:

OKLAHOMA!

Directed by Michael Fischer

Open to performers Age 10-19**

The great American Musical, OKLAHOMA! tells the tale of two young cowboys vying for the hearts of the women they love, one against a shady ranch hand, the other against a slick traveling peddler. It’s a classic you just “Cain’t Say No” to.

AUDITIONS
September 10 & 11

CHARACTER DESCRIPTIONS
Curly- Male Lead. A young, charming, good looking, old western cowboy. Very likable and instantly grabs the female audience with his good looks and suave persona. Needs to demand presence and energy while on stage.
Must have good stage presence, chemistry with Laurey, confidence, and strong singing voice. Some dance

Laurey- Female Lead. Young and beautiful with an attitude. Wants to be looked at as a self supported woman and yet yearns for Curly's love. Is very quick-witted with her comebacks at Curly.
Must have good stage presence, chemistry with Curly, confidence, and a strong singing voice. Some dance

Aunt Eller- Old with an attitude, and a great sense of humor. Eller is smart and knows how to deal with people, especially the ones in this town. Can be played over the top and sung with a character voice. Some dance

Will Parker- Very energetic and good looking, this young cowboy makes up for his lack of brains with energy and charisma. Will is instantly likable and charming, always needs to make the audience smile. Can be tough but gets extra lovable when Ado Annie is around.
Must have great stage presence, chemistry with Ado Annie, confidence, likability, and a strong voice. Must Dance

Ado Annie- Very energetic and cute, this farmer’s daughter is the Love to Will’s heart. Ado Annie is lovable and sweet but she loves attention, sometimes too much. Not very bright but makes up for it with her good looks and happy attitude.
Must act very cute and loving, chemistry with Will, confidence on stage, a strong singing voice. Some dance

Ali Hakim- A cart peddler who roams the state trying to make money off of cheap items. Will do whatever it takes to make a buck, which sometimes gets him into trouble. When he is in trouble, he is quick to use his dry sense of humor and witty remarks to get himself out of it.
Must have good stage presence, confidence, and good sense of humor. Some singing (can be done with a character voice). Some movement

Jud- Villain of the show. Very large and intimidating man. The audience should always be a little afraid of him. He isn’t that smart but he makes up for it in size. Must be intimidating, mean, aggressive, confident, and demand a large stage presence.
Some singing (can be done with a character voice). Some movement.

Carnes- Ado Annie’s crazy father. Thinks he is always right. Very over the top with his character.
Must have good stage presence and must be over the top. Some singing and some movement.

There will also be sixteen ensemble rolls
Ensemble characters need to be over the top with energy and enthusiasm.
WE ARE LOOKING FOR CHARACTERS!!
Some singing and movement will also be involved

Ten Lead Dancers
Five female and five male dancers will be the feature dancers in the show.


Please prepare a one-minute memorized song in the style of your choice. Bring sheet music in the proper key. No a cappella auditions. A piano accompanist will be provided. Please wear clothes you can move in for the dance portion of the audition. Also please bring a positive attitude and energy!

The audition will consist of singing 1 minute of music, cold reading, and dance.

**Participants must be at least 10 years old and not yet 20 by November 20, 2011.**

Rehearsals held Mondays and Wednesdays 5:30pm to 7:30pm,
and Saturdays 10am to 2pm beginning Saturday, 9/17.

All Cast and Parents must attend a mandatory
welcome meeting Wednesday 9/14 6 to 7pm.

Performances November 4-20, 2011
